How to Travel with Your Jewelry (Without the Tangles or the Worry)
By Lori Gadola
I have been traveling A TON, and my favorite pieces deserve to see the world with me. After all, I designed Joyle to be wearable day to evening. But anyone who has opened a suitcase to find a knot of chains knows travel can be hard on jewelry. The good news is that it only takes a little planning. Here's how I pack my pieces so they arrive ready to wear. As well as a few other tips. ENJOY!
Start with what you bring
Pack less, wear more. The best travel jewelry goes with everything, like a beaded necklace and a layering piece pendant, everyday hoops or a ring you never take off. 5-6 pieces to layer with different looks. I always bring my wrap braclet that can be used as a long neck or my long ring neck necklace that I can double up for two different looks.
Snap a quick photo. Before you leave, take pictures of everything you're packing. If something goes missing, you'll have a record ready for an insurance claim.
Pack it the smart way
Stop tangles before they start. I always make sure to seal necklaces with a chain in a small zip-top bag with the clasp sticking out of the top so the chain stays straight.
Give each piece its own space. A padded travel jewelry case with separate compartments is a great investment. Delicate pieces like pearls and opals do best in their own soft pouch, away from harder stones and metals.
Keep it safe on the go
Keep it with you. Jewelry never goes in checked luggage. Pack it in your carry-on or personal item so it stays with you the whole trip.
Use the safe. When you head out for the day, lock anything you're not wearing in the hotel safe or a portable lockbox.
Keep a low profile. In busy or unfamiliar places, choose understated pieces. Save your showstoppers for the evening out.
Your jewelry is part of your story, and it should travel as well as you do. With a little care, your favorite Joyla pieces will be ready for every stop on the trip.
